[1] This funerary monument dating to the early 4th century BC is among the inscriptions acquired in Athens by Richard Chandler in 1765-6 and presented to the British Museum by the Society of Dilettanti in 1785 (cf. AIUK 4.1, no. 1). It commemorates an Athenian citizen male, identified by the characteristic citizen nomenclature of name, "Eumachos", patronymic, "son of Euthymachos", and demotic, "of Alopeke", a deme located at modern Katsipodi, outside the city walls of Athens to the south-east. He is not otherwise known. The missing part of the stele beneath the name may have included more names of family members or a painting.
