The Areopagos Council and the Council of the Six Hundred and the [People] (erected this statue of) Julius Nikanor ⟦New Homer⟧ ⟦and New Themistokles⟧.^[1]

[1] This is one of a series of statue bases for the first-century AD benefactor, Julius Nikanor “the New Homer and New Themistokles.” On him and the date, see IG II² 1069. As in most other inscriptions mentioning him, the extravagant titles have been erased. This base has been identified with another lost inscription in K. S. Pittakes, L'ancienne Athènes, 1835, p. 228 (3), but they are probably distinct (S. Follet in S. Follet L'hellénisme d'époque romaine, 2004, 139-40).
