[1] This lost inscription, known only from a squeeze and transcription by H. von Prott, is puzzling. Since, characteristically, the surviving text is below and to the left of a myrtle crown, it may be part of a series of dedications by Athenian archons in the Cave of Apollo on the north face of the Athenian acropolis. For details, see IG II³ 4 128. The word restored "secretary", however, consists of its first two letters only, arranged as a monogram, and the word for "prytany" is restored. Since the prytany secretary was an official of the Council and not one of the archons of Athens, it would be surprising to find him making a dedication to Apollo Hypo Makrais.
