[1] This marble plaque is part of a series of dedications by Athenian archons in the Cave of Apollo on the north face of the Athenian acropolis. For details, see IG II³ 4, 128. [2] Member of a prominent Athenian family. His father was an ephebe after mid-first century AD (IG II³ 4, 405); there is an honorific decree from ca. AD 101/2 for his brother, Sozon, a doctor and priest of Asklepios (IG II² 3798); and his son was perhaps Ladikos son of Polyainos (SEG 29.127 col. 2 ll. 15, 51, AD 174/5). The eponymous archon of 14/3 BC, Polyainos son of Nikandros of Sounion, was perhaps an ancestor (Follet, Athènes, p. 178; Schmalz, p. 301).
