[1] This set of three inscriptions was inscribed on one of the numerous allocated seats in the theatre of Dionysos at Athens (on the seats for priests, officials, and honorands in this theatre see IG II³ 4, 1938). This one is the right half of a double seat located in the fifth spot on the eight wedge of seating from the north. The left half (IG II³ 4, 1928) was allocated to the high priest of the Imperial cult. The seat was engraved on three different occasions: inscription I was erased and is now completely lost; inscription II was inscribed in this erasure, to reassign the seat to a priest of the emperor Hadrian, and seems to have been partially erased in turn; inscription III might have been added at a later date, in order to associate Hadrian with Dionysos Eleutheraieus. The priesthood of Hadrian referred to in this inscription, otherwise unattested, is apparently distinct from the priesthood of Olympian Zeus (which was closely associated with Hadrian) and the priesthood of Hadrian Panhellenios (which belonged to the Panhellenion rather than Athens, cf.
