[1] For the Paraloi, see IG II² 1254. This inscription is interpreted by IG as implying dedication of two sets of victory spoils, but an alternative possibility, suggested by Lambert, ZPE 119, 1997, 102, is that there were two groups of Paraloi analogous to the two branches of the Salaminioi, "from the Seven Tribes", and "from Sounion" (cf. RO 37). A trierarch of the Paralos also appears in Isaios 5.6 and 5.42, but in other sources the Paralos has a treasurer (tamias), elected by the Athenian People (Demosth. 21.171-4 with schol., Ath. Pol. 61.7, Pollux 8.116). It is disputed whether these are two terms for the same office, or two distinct offices (Bubelis, Historia 59, 2010, 385-411). The lower part of the inscription was erased in the second century AD to make way for an honorific inscription for Regilla, the wife of Herodes Atticus (IG II² 3607).
