The soldiers, having crowned the general and having been crowned in return, dedicated (this).

In olive crown General Thrasyboulos (5) son of Thrason of Erchia (crowned them).^[1]

[1] This base is one of a series of military dedications from deme garrisons in honour of their annual commanders. For an overview of the genre see IG II³ 4, 285 n.1. There is a slot in the upper surface of the base for a votive. Thrasyboulos of Erchia was among those Athenian leaders whose surrender was initially demanded by Alexander the Great after the sack of Thebes in 335 BC (Athenian Onomasticon, s. v. Thrasyboulos of Erchia). He served as general in 326/5 BC (IG II² 1628, l. 40-41), which might indicate the date of this inscription (though iterations of the generalship were common at this period).
