Dedication by an ephebe

IG II³ 4 381 Date: ca. mid-1st cent. BC

. . . three lines missing^[1] . . . [on behalf of his fellow ephebes] . . . in the year that – [was archon, (dedicated this) to Hermes, in the trainership (paidotribountos) of Philios son] of Diokles of [Phrearrhioi, in the assistant-trainership (hupopaidotribountos) of] Theodoros [son of – of Melite].^[2]

[1] On the ephebic dedications of the Hellenistic period see IG II³ 4, 357 with n. 1. The top of the monument has a cutting for the insertion of a votive. [2] This monument was dedicated under the same trainer and assistant trainer as IG II³ 4, 380, but as the name of the archon in office is missing, it is unclear whether the monuments are of the same year. The findspot of the inscription, between the streets Kyrrhestou-Erechtheos and Adrianou, was perhaps close to the location of the Ptolemaion or the Diogeneion.
