[1] This marble architectural fragment is from a fourth-century choregic dedication commemorating a victory in the dithyrambic competition at the City Dionysia (cf. IG II³ 4, 460 with notes). The appearance of Antiochis as the single victorious tribe makes the ascription of this dedication to the City Dionysia certain. Davies, APF, pp. 336-37, suggests identifying Kritoboulos with the son of the well-off Kriton of Alopeke, Socrates’ companion and fellow demesman (cf. Pl. Apol. 33e, Crito 44b), since Kritoboulos was a rich Athenian (cf. Xen. Oik. 2.3) and fulfilled several liturgies (Xen. Oik. 5ff.).
