Relief The treasurer and the managers (epimelētai) and the secretary^[1] in the archonship of Hegemachos (300/299) dedicated (this) to Pankrates^[2] having been crowned by the (5) friendly society (eranistōn) for their excellence and justice concerning the friendly society.

In olive crown Treasurer: Mys Managers: Dionysodoros of Miletos (10) Eunostos of Thebes Demophilos of Herakleia^[3] Dionysios Secretary: Konon of Herakleia.^[3]

[1] For dedications by “friendly societies” (eranistai) cf. IG II³ 4, 634. This one is inscribed on a stele below a relief representing a bearded Herakles reclining on a lion skin. [2] The sanctuary of Pankrates was outside the walls of Athens, beside the river Ilissos (the present-day area, "Pangrati", derives its name from it). The god was sometimes, as here, represented as Herakles. The sanctuary has yielded a substantial number of votive reliefs, for which see E. Vikela, Die Weihreliefs aus dem Athener Pankrates-Heiligtum am Ilissos (1994) (SEG 44.139-159; IG II³ 4, 1470-1496), one of which was dedicated by a Dionysodoros (IG II³ 4, 1478). Cf. [3] In the fourth century BC the Herakleia with which Athens had the strongest connections was Herakleia Pontica on the Black Sea, but in this kind of context, and with names that are not indicative of any particular place of origin, it is impossible to tell whether the men were from that city or another one of the same name. Mys (7) could be a Carian or a Greek name.
