[1] On the choregic dedications from Ikarion see IG II³ 4, 497. This dedication is inscribed on the epistyle of a marble relief depicting dramatic masks. Four masks are preserved (of perhaps an original six), the two upper ones tragic, the two lower comic (IG), though it has also been suggested that the lower right mask is a satyr (J. R. Green, Rev. arch. 1982, 244-5) and the lower left a tragic old woman (cf. Csapo-Wilson). Green suggests this is a set of masks from a satyr play. If this is correct, it is rare evidence for performance of a satyr play in a deme (for further discussion see Csapo-Wilson). The lettering and orthography (including -ο for -ου, which is increasingly unusual after mid-iv BC) and the style of the sculpture (dated by Green ca. 350-325 BC) combine to suggest a date ca. mid-iv BC (IG, ca. 360 BC, Csapo and Wilson).
