[1] Textual Note. This stone (stele?) was transcribed by M. Fourmont in the 18th century (Paris, BnF, Suppl. gr. 854, f. 111, no. 214, I thank Robert Pitt for showing me a copy) and L. Ross in the 19th century (notes used in IG¹ and IG²), while in reuse as a paving block in the monastery of Kareas at the foot of Mt Hymettos on the side facing the city. We follow the text of Agora XV except: Crown 7 Fourmont read nothing, [οἱ ἱπ]πεῖς IG after Ross, [οἱ συλλο]γ̣εῖς Ag. XV, suggesting that they were more consistent with οἱ συμπρυτάνεις in crown 12 (cf. IG II³ 4, 72 and IG II² 1257). Crown 12 ΟΙΣΥΜΠΥ Fourmont, on the basis of which Boeckh, CIG 132 conjectured οἱ συμπρυτάνεις; οἱ συμπρυτά[νεις] IG and Ag. XV after Boeckh and Ross. οἱ συμπυ[θαϊσταί] ? Lambert, after Fourmont (cf. IG II³ 4, 18, with notes). Robert Pitt, however, kindly reports that a copy of this inscription in a MS once owned by Lord Guilford, to be published by himself, M. Metcalf and A. Zambon, reads ΟΙΣΥΜΠΡΟΑ, which raises the attractive possibility, οἱ συμπρόε̣[δροι, a commonly attested word in inscriptions (unlike the other two; see further below).

This was identified in Agora XV, following IG II², as a prytany dedication (cf. IG I³ 515), but, as Humphreys noted, it is more plausibly interpreted as an "individual dedication ... set up near or even after the end of a successful career". The monument commemorates honours awarded by various bodies, including:

The Council of 344/3 BC (crown 4).
One or two tribes (crowns 5 and 6). Some agonistic events involved pairs of tribes, e.g. the choregia for the dithyrambic competition at the Thargelia, cf. IG II³ 4, 475, or the honorand may have been crowned twice by his tribe on different occasions, or (less likely?) "tribesmen" might mean "fellow prytany members", as at Agora XV 58, 305/4 BC.
The cavalry (hippeis) or the conveners of the People (syllogeis tou demou) (crown 7). On the latter see IG II³ 4, 72.
His fellow demesmen (crown 11).
There are three possibilities for crown 12: his fellow prytany members, his fellow pilgrims to Delphi (pythaistai), or (most plausibly?) his fellow members of the presiding committee of the Assembly, i.e. he had probably served as chairman of the proedroi, who was named in the prescripts of decrees of the Council and Assembly at this period, sometimes with the symproedroi; on this and for decrees honouring the proedroi at this period cf. IG II³ 1, 476, with notes.
