[1] The reference to a pipe-player indicates that this fragment from the right side of a base is part of a Roman-period choregic dedication commemorating a victory in dithyrambic contests at the City Dionysia (see IG II³ 4, 558 with notes). Iakchos is Dionysos, in whose honour the competition was held. The letter forms suggest a first-century AD date.
