This fragment from a statue base might commemorate Agrippina the Elder, a granddaughter of Augustus and the mother of emperor Gaius "Caligula" (r. 37-41 AD, on him, see IG II² 3267 with notes; on Agrippina the Elder's role in Gaius' dynastic representation, see O. Hekster, Emperors and Ancestors, 2015, 122-24) or Agrippina Minor, the sister of Caligula (who was subsequently wife of Claudius and mother of Nero, see textual note). Remains of statues of both have been found at Athens (Louvre Ma 3133 and NAMA 3554). There is an oval cutting on top for the insertion of a marble statue and a rectangular cutting in the bottom from an earlier or later use as the bedding for an inscribed stele.
