[1] This is one of over a hundred surviving altars from Athens dedicated to the Emperor Hadrian (r. 117-138 AD), as saviour, founder, and Olympios, on which see Benjamin, Altars of Hadrian 7 with notes. The inscribed plaque is made from a recycled marble rooftile (cf. Benjamin, Altars of Hadrian 9).
