Erechtheion building accounts, 409/8 BC

The overseers[1] on the acropolis in which the ancient statue is,[2] Brosynides
of the temple of Kephisia, Chariades of Agryle, Diodes of Kephisia, master of the works Philokles of Acharnai, secretary Etearchos of Kydathenaion,
wrote up these works on the temple in the state in which they took them over, according to the
5 decree of the People which Epigenes proposed, those that were complete and those half-finished, in
the archonship of Diokles (409/8),[3] in the first prytany, of KekropisVII, under the Council
for which Nikophanes of Marathon was the first secretary.

We took over these parts of the temple half finished:[4] at the corner towards the Kekropion:[5] 10 4 blocks unplaced: length four feet,
width two feet, thickness
one and a half feet;
1 maschaliaia:[6] length four feet,
width three feet, thickness
15 one and a half feet;
5 blocks for the wall-capital : length four feet,
width three feet, thickness
one and a half feet;

1 corner block : length seven feet,
20 width four feet, thickness
one and a half feet;

1 moulded stone, unplaced,
corresponding to the wall-capitals: length
ten feet, height one
25 and a half feet;

2 corresponding to the architrave :

1 column capital , unplaced, for the
30 interior pilaster: length three feet,
width one and a half feet, thickness
one and a half feet;
5 architrave blocks , unplaced: length eight
feet, width two and a
35 quarter feet, thickness two feet;
3 architrave blocks up in place,
to be finished: length eight feet,
width two feet and a quarter,
thickness two feet.
40 The course of Eleusinian stone against which will be
the figures begins all of the
remaining work all round, and three blocks were placed
under these overseers.
Of the columns on the wall 45 by the Pandroseion,[7] of the 4 columns in position,

one and a half foot was uncut
from the inner face of the floral ornament of each column.

on the wall to the south
needed to have its moulding added on the inside.

These were unsmoothed and
55 unchannelled:
the wall towards the south
wind, unsmoothed
except in the porch by the Kekropion;[5] 60 the orthostates unsmoothed

all the columns unfluted except the ones on the wall; the substructure all around unsmoothed;

70 were 8 four-footers of moulded stone;
of that in the Prostomiaion,[8] 12 four-footers;
of the parastas,[9] 7 four-footers;
