[1] This is one of a number of dedications in the British Museum to Zeus Hypsistos (“Zeus The All High”) deriving from the Earl of Aberdeen’s excavation in 1803 of the former meeting place of the Athenian Assembly on the Pnyx. For other such dedications see AIUK 4.5 no. 13, with notes. Many of them take the form of anatomical votives. This example consists of only a plain tablet with inscription, with no sculpted relief of an anatomical part (cf. AIUK 4.5 no. 22). The formula of this inscription suggests that the dedication was made by one person (perhaps a close relative) on behalf of Euphrosynos in the hope that he be healed from some affliction.
