In the archonship of Antigenes (171/0), in the fourth prytany, of ErechtheisI, for which Sosandros son of Sosikrates of AlopekeXI was secretary. On the eleventh of Pyanopsion, (5) the seventeenth of the prytany. Principal Assembly (ekklēsia kuria) in the theatre. Of the presiding committee E . . . enides son of Echephylos of Acharnai was putting to the vote, and his fellow presiding committee members. The Council and the People decided. Anaxiphon son of Euphragoras of Rhamnous proposed: since the (10) ephebes who were ephebes in the archonship of Sosigenes (172/1) continually behaved in a disciplined manner . . . and their [superintendent (tōi te kosmētei)] and generals . . . they took care of the [protection (phulakēs)] . . . likewise the laws and the decrees of the People (15) and . . . [the processions] proper to themselves . . . the Revered Goddesses (Semnais theais) . . . the proper . . . with orderliness (eukosmias) . . . (20) . . . In order therefore that there should always be an incentive (ephamillon) for those who are ephebes to be disciplined and obedient to those appointed by the People to be in charge as [expert instructors (didaskalois)], that the Council and the People may honour those who perform [beautifully (kalōs)] as ephebes, for good fortune, the Council shall decide, that the presiding committee allotted (25) for the forthcoming Assembly shall place these matters on the agenda, and submit the opinion of the Council to the People, that it seems good to the Council to praise the ephebes of the archonship of Sosigenes (172/1), and crown them with a gold crown in accordance with the law . . . for their [piety (eusebeias)] towards the (30) gods . . . and to announce the crown . . .
