[1] This decree is inscribed on the same stone under IG I³ 11, the reaffirmed alliance with Egesta of 418/7 BC. It relates to Halikyai, a place south of Egesta mentioned by Thucydides 7.32.1, and is usually assumed to provide for a treaty with Halikyai on the same terms as Egesta, though it is so fragmentary that we can not be confident that it should be restored in that sense. The restoration of the Halikyaians as “Elymian”, an ethnic group to which Egesta belonged, is also uncertain. (It is not clear that Halikyai also belonged to this group). The date is also uncertain. H. B. Mattingly, ZPE 206, 1999, 118-19 (SEG 49.50) suggested 418/7 or 417/6 BC, J. D. Smart, JHS 92, 1972, 128-46 and T. E. Wick, JHS 95, 1975, 190 n. 32 prefer 416/5 (and the latter suggested the archon of that year, Arimnestos, might be restored in l. 2).
