[1] This fragment is one of at least ten temple inventories from the Asklepieion on the south slope of the Acropolis. For the others, see Aleshire, Asklepieion, 1. On the sanctuary in general, see IG II³ 4, 665 with notes). The inventory is arranged chronologically and may be a very short record for a kathairesis ("liquidation"), in which old dedications were melted down to make one or more larger objects, but this is not certain. For examples of kathairesis inventories, see Aleshire, Asklepieion, 5, 6, 9. The letters are ‘in the style of’ the Cutter of IG II² 903, who was active ca. 180-160 BC, which provides a tentative indication of date (Tracy ALC, 132-36).
