[1] This fragmentary list of names probably belonged to one of three extant decrees of this period honouring the maidens who worked the peplos for Athena; the other two are SEG 53.143 of 108/7 BC and IG II² 1034 + 1943 of 103/2 BC. The inscription was cut by a mason who worked between 131/0 and 98/7 BC (Tracy, Attic Letter Cutters of 229-86 BC, 181-183), but the pattern of occurrence of the same individuals on the three inscriptions implies that IG II² 1942 probably dates a little later than 1034+1943 (103/2 BC). [2] These same four girls (or their sisters) had already appeared in IG II² 1034 (103/2 BC).
