Proxeny for Apelles of Byzantium

Decree 1 . . . . . . he shall be permitted to obtain from
the People whatever good
[he may be worthy of?].
Decree 2 The People decided. -ates
(5) son of Athen- of -
proposed: in other respects in accordance
with the Council’s proposal, but since
Apelles son of Zopyros of Byzantium[1] does what good
(10) is in his power on behalf of the Athenian People, and collaborates with
the generals whom the city sends out[2] in every way they require, the
People shall resolve:
(15) that Apelles son of Zopyros
of Byzantium shall be proxenos
and benefactor of the Athenian People, himself and his
descendants; and the generals
(20) in office at any time
and the Council shall
take care of him and the
prytany (prutaneis) who are
allotted . . . (25) collaborate . . . ;
and the prytany secretary (grammatea ton kata prutaneian) shall inscribe the
proxeny for him and
stand it on the acropolis; and
(30) for inscribing the stele
the treasurer of the People
shall give 20 drachmas from
the People’s fund for
expenditure on decrees.
