Dedication by an ephebe victor

IG II³ 4 413 Date: 1st-2nd cents. AD

Having been victorious in the torch-race among his fellow ephebes Achilleides / (5) dedicated (this) as a mark of his outstanding reputation for excellence.^[1]

[1] On the ephebic dedications of the Hellenistic and Roman periods see IG II³ 4, 357 with n. 1. The dedication is cast as an elegiac couplet. The monument has a circular cutting in the top for the insertion of a votive, probably the torch that was the prize of the race.
