[1] This fragment appears to derive from a statue base for Livia, wife of Augustus. The nomenclature is problematic because Livia only became Augusta after 14 AD, but at that time her nomen also changed from Livia to Julia. Some parallels exist, however (S. Zoumbaki and L. G. Mendoni in L. G. Mendoni and A. I. Mazarakis Ainan, Kea-Kythnos: History and Archaeology, 1998, 672-73). For other inscriptions relating to Livia at Athens, see IG II² 3238 with notes. Alternatively, Schmalz suggests that the base honoured Julia Livilla, one of the sisters of the emperor Gaius "Caligula." In this case, the base would date between his accession in 37 AD and her exile in 39 AD (see textual note). For other inscriptions relating to Caligula, see IG II² 3267 with notes.

Textual note: Schmalz proposes to read [θεὰν? Λιο]υιαν Σεβ[αστοῦ ἀδελφὴν] | [Τατάρι]ον Ἀσκληπιο[δώρου Γαργητ]|[τίου θυγά]τηρ τὴν ἑατ[ής εὐεργέτιν], “[(This statue of) the goddess (?)] Livia, [sister of] Augustus | [(was erected by) Tatari]on daughter of Asklepiodoros of Gargettos, | for her own benefactor,” identifying the honorand as Julia Livilla. If correctly restored, Tatarion would be a relative of Menandros of Gargettos (cf. I Eleusis 333).
