Sallustianus Demostratos honours Hadrian

[1] This is one of over fifty statue bases for the Emperor Hadrian (r. 117-138 AD) attested from Athens. The epithet "Olympios" indicates a date after 128/9 AD (F. Camia in A. Kouremenos, The Province of Achaea in the 2nd Century CE, 2022, 98-99) and might mean that the statue was erected to celebrate Hadrian's consecration of the Temple of Olympian Zeus in 132 AD (see IG II² 3290 with notes). The dedicator, Sallustianus Demostratos of Phlya is the first known member of a family that appear to have been related to Antipatros of Phlya, the leading figure in Augustan-era Athens (see AIUK 2 (BSA), no. 5). His son, Sallustianus Aiolion, was prominent in ca. 175-190 AD, and descendants are attested into the 220s (Byrne, Roman Citizens, 2003, 423-424).
