[1] This inscription is known only from a report of the French traveller, Michel Fourmont, who visited Athens in 1729. It is one of over a hundred surviving altars from Athens dedicated to the Emperor Hadrian (r. 117-138 AD), as saviour, founder, and Olympios, on which see Benjamin, Altars of Hadrian 7 with notes.
