[1] This is one of a number of short inscriptions specifying offerings required, most but not all of them associated with the Asklepieia on the south slope of the Acropolis and in the Piraeus. See IG II² 4962, with notes, and for further discussion, CGRN 133. None of the inscriptions of this type can be securely dated, except in a general way by lettering and graphic features. In this case the use of -o- for -ou- in the accusative plural hebdomos would normally suggest a 4th-cent. date, but the style of lettering suggests, but does not necessarily imply, a later date. Several explanations are possible, including that l. 2 was (re-)inscribed at a later date, but based on an earlier model. Cf. IG II³ 4, 1748, with notes. In any case we prefer to give a broad date range rather than follow IG's more specific dating to the 2nd cent. BC. Cf. IG II³ 4, 1759.
