[1] This is part of a set of Roman Imperial-period milestones in the shape of herms (see I Eleusis 647 with notes). It was found at the monastery of Daphni, but this is roughly six Roman miles from Athens, so it had perhaps been brought there from slightly further down the road. The layout of the text suggests that this was one of a pair of herms, perhaps flanking a gateway. The herm’s head is lost.
