Citizenship for Aischron son of Proxenos

. . . preservation (sōtēriai) . . . ; and
(5) now the Amphiktyonic delegates (pulagorōn) have written concerning the events
in Delphi, that, when it was reported that the . . . [Athenians
who went to the Pythia] in the archonship of Diokles (286/5) [had been captured], Aischron . . . [made] . . . with Charixenos . . . (10) and others with them . . . he overpowered (ebiasato) the outlaws (paranomēsantas), and [took charge of] the rescue and [ransoming] of those who had been captured,
and restored them [to Delphi in complete] safety;
so, therefore, that the Council and People might be seen to
(15) be honouring good men, for good fortune, the Council
shall decide: that the [presiding committee (proedrous) who happen] to preside in the People, when the [days] set by the law
[have passed], shall put the matter of the award . . . on the agenda,
and submit the opinion of the Council
(20) to the People, that it seems good to the Council to praise
Aischron son of Proxenos for the excellence [and love of honour (philotimias)] which he continues to have for the Athenian People
and to crown him with a gold crown according to the law;
and he shall be Athenian, and his descendants, and
(25) shall enrol in the tribe and deme and phratry that he
wishes as did his ancestors, so that others too
may show love of honour (philotimōntai) in competing (agōnizesthai) on behalf of the Athenian People, knowing that they will receive thanks
worthy of their benefactions; and the prytany which
(30) happens to be in office shall put the vote
about the award, and when it is confirmed, the court presidents (thesmothetas) shall bring the scrutiny (dokimasian) of him to the public
court according to the laws; and the secretary of the Council
shall inscribe this decree on a stone stele
(35) and stand it on the acropolis; and for the [making] of the stele
the board of administrators (tous epi tēi dioikēsei) shall allocate [the expenditure].
