Honours for the Tenian People

Decree 1 . . . the People shall decide: to praise the
Tenian People and to crown them
with a gold crown of 1000 drachmas
for their excellence and good will for
(5) the Athenian People; and there shall be
equality of taxation (isoteleian) for the Tenians living
in Athens . . . . . . . . . [... to praise ...] (10) [... and] [crown] each with a foliage crown,
because they are good men concerning the
Athenian People; and the Tenians shall
have access to the Council and
(15) People after the sacred business, if they
should need it, and the Council in office at any time and the
generals shall take care of them,
to ensure they are harmed
by no-one; and the secretary of the Council
(20) shall inscribe this decree on a stone
stele and stand it on the acropolis;
and for inscribing the stele
the treasurer of the People shall give 20
drachmas.
Decree 2 (25) In the archonship of Ourias (281/0), in the eleventh prytany, of DemetriasII,
for which Euxenos son of Kallias of AixoneIX was secretary; on the old and new day (henei kai neai) [of Thargelion], the twenty-ninth of the prytany. Assembly. Of the presiding
committee Theotimos son of Theokles of - was putting to the vote and his fellow presiding committee members.
The Council and People decided. - son of - of - proposed:
(30) concerning the matters that the ambassador of the Tenians reports, the Council
[shall resolve (epsēphisthai)]: that the presiding committee (proedrous) allotted to preside at the
next Assembly shall present the ambassador of the Tenians to
the People and put the matter on the agenda and submit the opinion
of the Council to the People, that it seems good to the Council to praise the
(35) Tenian People and crown them with a gold crown according to
the law for the excellence and good will which they continue to have for the Athenian
People; and the equality of taxation (isoteleian) granted to them by the People
according to the decree which - son of - of - proposed shall be affirmed
for those performing military service and paying [capital taxes (eisphoras) on the same basis as Athenians];
(40) and to praise the Tenian ambassador . . . and crown him with a foliage crown [for his love of honour (philotimias)] for the
Athenian People; and to invite him [to hospitality (xenia) in the] city hall (prutaneion) tomorrow; and the secretary of the People shall inscribe
this decree on the stele on which the earlier decree of the People
(45) has been inscribed,[1] in accordance with what they themselves [request (aitousin)]; and for the
inscribing the board of administrators (tous epi tēi dioikēsei) shall allocate . . .
