[1] In myth, Eurysakes and his brother Philaios inherited the kingship of Salamis from their father Aias after the Trojan War and then brought Salamis into the Athenian state. Eurysakes then settled at Melite, in the city of Athens (Paus. 1.35, Plut. Solon 10.3). This base probably comes from the sanctuary of Eurysakes, which was controlled by the genos Salaminioi (cf. RO 37), served also as the tribal sanctuary for Aiantis, and was located in Melite, in or near the Agora. Cf. R.E. Wycherley, Agora III, 90-93. The base is lost and we are reliant for its text on an uncertain copy by the pioneering 19th-cent. epigraphist of the early years of Greek independence, K. Pittakis.
