[1] The generals' headquarters (strategion) was the location where the generals met to deliberate, sacrifice, and dine (Aischines 2.85 with schol.; Demosthenes 19.190). The monument commemorates honours awarded to or by soldiers stationed there. Tracy, ALC 58, identifies the inscriber as the "Cutter of IG II² 912", active 226/5 ‒ ca. 190 BC. There is a cutting on the upper surface for a statue.
