[1] On the ephebic dedications of the Hellenistic period see IG II³ 4, 357 with n. 1. There is a cutting in the top of the monument for a votive. Eumareides was ephebe in 138/7 BC and later mint-magistrate, see Athenian Onomasticon, s.v. Eumareides of Euonymon. On Hermaia cf. IG II³ 1, 1281, with n. 6. It is not certain that Eumareides dedicated this as an ephebe, though the small size of the dedication might suggest it, and for the association of Hermaia with ephebes cf. IG I³ 246, ll. 29-34.
