[1] This is not a prytany dedication in the regular series commemorating victory in the annual competition between the prytanies (on which, see IG I³ 515), since the competition was won this year by Oineis (IG II³ 4, 78; for such a dedication by the prytany of Aiantis, see IG II³ 4, 87). It is rather a dedication funded personally by some members of the prytany to Eileithyia, goddess of childbirth, following the birth of a son, Sokles, to (presumably) one of the prytany members. The child may well be the Sokles son of Pasikles of Trikorynthos (a deme of Aiantis) who, not perhaps very long afterwards, was commemorated on the funerary monument, IG II² 7562.
