[1] The top of the stone still shows a quadrangular cavity for the insertion of a votive. [2] For a dedication by one of the other thesmothetai of this year see IG II³ 4, 84. In this case the honour awarded by Kleonymos' fellow officials (synarchontes), presumably his fellow thesmothetai, is commemorated, as well as the awards by Council, People, tribe and deme. It was not uncommon for boards of officials to honour their own members.

The findspot of this inscription (for which see Kavvadias, Arch. Eph. 1898, coll. 10-11, no. 4a) may be significant, as it might originally have been set up, along with IG II³ 4, 84 (also first seen in the Plaka), in the (not yet located) Thesmotheteion. Cf. Geagan, Agora XVIII p. 22; Russo, pp. 170-1; and on the Thesmotheteion, Di Cesare, in E. Greco ed., Topografia di Atene 2, pp. 539-40.

This inscription is the only evidence for a decree passed by the very small deme of Kekropis, Epieikidai (bouleutic quota 1 in the 4th cent. BC according to Traill, Demos (1986), 135, with n. 33, but the quota is not directly attested, cf. Agora XV 20, with notes). The crown at col. 6 implies that Kleonymos had been honoured by his deme, among other bodies. The location of Epieikidai is unknown; the deme is discussed briefly by Humphreys, Kinship, 1051 (on demes in general see RO 46, with notes). See also Whitehead, Demes (1986), 45 and 266.
