[1] This is one of a series of pilasters commemorating torch races (lampadedromiai) at Rhamnous, on which see IG II³ 4, 317. The inscription is on the abacus of a rectangular capital which is decorated with a floral design and has four sockets on top. Three of these probably held bronze torches; the leftmost contains a square inner socket, which suggests it held something different. Two holes in the bottom allowed the capital to be fixed to the top of a column.
