[1] This is a unique dedication by men honoured by a group of “workers” (ergaz[omenoi]), who were perhaps further specified in the text missing at the end of l. 2. The type of “work” in question might comprehend a range from manual labour to business operations (cf. L. Robert, Claros I, 1989, 46), but is perhaps most likely to imply religious works, cf. the ergastinai, who wove the peplos for Athena, Hesych. s.v., with AIUK 1 (Petworth House), p. 11, and the genos “Praxiergidai”, “Doers of Works”, who had duties relating to the same peplos, IG I³ 7. Cf. also the "launderers" who dedicated IG II³ 4, 635, with note [SDL].
