Koropissos honours Hadrian

IG II² 3307 Date: ca. 132 AD

(This statue of) Emperor Trajan Hadrian Caesar Augustus Olympios (was erected by) the Council and (5) People of the Koropisseans, mother-city of the Kietans,^[1] through the envoys Gaius Ninnius and Athenion (10) son of Clemens, also called Lykiskos, in the priesthood of Claudius Attikos.^[2]

[1] This statue base is part of a group erected for Emperor Hadrian (r. 117-138 AD) in the precinct of the Temple of Olympian Zeus by delegations from cities throughout the eastern Roman Empire to celebrate Hadrian's consecration of the temple in 132 AD (see IG II² 3290 with notes). As this inscription indicates, the dedicator, Koropissos, was located in the region of Kietis in the mountains of western Cilicia (see T. Mitford, Aufstieg und Niedergang 2.7.2, 1980, 1233 and 1260). On the title of mother-city, see IG II² 3297 with notes. Koropissos also advertised the title in coinage from 128/9 AD onwards (RPC III 3217), which probably indicates that it had received it from Hadrian at this time. The tall, narrow base would have supported a statue well under life-size.
