Citizenship decree for Straton son of Timon
IG II3 1 1392 Date: Ca. 170 BC
[1] . . . . . . continually . . . which he has towards . . . , and several of the citizens
(5) have testified for him about this, and it is customary
for the People to give worthy thanks to those who display
love of honour (philotimoumenois) towards it, for good fortune, the Council
shall decide, that the presiding committee allotted to preside at the forthcoming
Assembly shall put these matters on the agenda, and submit the opinion
(10) of the Council to the People that it seems good to the Council
to praise Straton son of Timon of Li[ndos] or Ai[nos] (?) and crown
him with a gold crown in accordance with the law for his [excellence] and
love of honour (philotimias) towards the People of the Athenians, and to announce
this crown both (te) at the new tragedies of the City Dionysia;[2] (15) and the generals shall take care of the announcement;
and he shall also be granted citizenship, having been scrutinised
in the court in accordance with the law; and the court presidents (thesmothetas) when they have filled the court with five hundred and one
jurors, shall introduce his scrutiny, even if he is not
(20) present; and he shall be enrolled . . . . . . and it shall be permitted to him also in the future . . . . . . [to the] Council and People . . . . . . good, and be honoured . . . ;
and the prytany secretary shall inscribe this decree
(25) on a stone stele and stand it . . . . . .
