[1] Textual note: Peek suggests restoring l. 6 as [στῆσε Κιχήσιπ]π̣ος δῶρον θεῶι εἰ[κόνα τήνδε] ("[Kichesippos erected this statue as] a gift for the god") or [ἐννεσίαισι πατ]ρὸς δῶρον θεῶι εἵ[σατο τοῦτο] ("[erected this] gift for the god [at the encouragement of his father]").

This statue base was dedicated in the Asklepieion on the south slope of the Acropolis, on which see IG II³ 4, 665. with notes. The first three lines are inscribed in larger letters than the rest. Lines 5-6 are a pair of dactylic hexameters. The dedication is explicitly dedicated in response to recovery from an illness; it is unclear whether any vow was made to Asklepios in advance or if this was a spontaneous gift on recovery.

The sculptor Stratonides is known solely from epigraphic evidence: one other statue base from the Athenian Acropolis (IG II³ 4, 1572) and a base for a statue of ‘Apollo the doctor’ at Olbia on the Black Sea (see DNO 2429-2431).
