[1] The text presumably continued on a pilaster below, which slotted into a rectangular mortise on the bottom of the block, but has not been found. There are sockets in the upper surface for a life-size bronze statue. The inscription was erased half-heartedly when the block was reused as building material for a monument base east of the Stoa of Attalos. It might commemorate a cavalry procession or the anthippasia contest, on which see IG II³ 4, 252, with notes.
