[1] This columnar grave marker (kioniskos) is located on Philopappos Hill on the Koile road east of the church of Agios Demetrios Loumbardiaris. On kioniskoi, see AIUK 3 (Fitzwilliam), no. 7 with notes. It has inscriptions on two sides: the earlier epitaph for Aristonike (dated to the Imperial period but perhaps rather late Hellenistic). One chronological indicator for this text is the patronym Pleistias, which is often found at Athens but no later than the 1st century BC. Around the 2nd century AD, this text was erased and a second text for Poplios (the Greek form of Latin Publius) was inscribed on the back.
