[1] For a discussion of this decree see Lambert, ZPE 167 (2008), 22-26. It seems to relate to the statue of Aglauros, or perhaps rather of Athena, whose vestments, in myth, were left unwashed for a year after the death of Aglauros. As priestess of Athena, Aglauros had been the first to dress the statue. The ritual was perhaps connected to the Plynteria or Kallynteria festivals, and involved a genos, the Euenoridai, attested only here. Plato Kritias 113a-b apparently alludes to this genos in naming the autochthonous eponym of Atlantis (a mythical alternative Athens) Euenor. It was a common feature of genos mythology that they could trace their ancestry to autochthonous founding heroes of Athens. [2] Of Aglauros? There was certainly a priestess of Aglauros in the Aglaurion (e.g. IG II³ 1, 1002), but there may also have been a male priest.
