[1] This fragment (perhaps of a base) is from a fourth-century choregic dedication commemorating a victory in the dithyrambic competition at the City Dionysia (cf. IG II³ 4, 460 with notes), or perhaps the Thargelia (cf. IG II³ 4, 475 with notes) or other kind of competition. Ktesikles is the only archon of the fourth century BC whose name begins with Kt- (cf. Meritt, Hesp. 29, 1960, 39-40, no. 49).
