[1] On the introduction of the “competition-director” (agonothetes) in or shortly before 307/6 BC see IG II³ 4, 518, with notes. The absence of a demotic in l. 2 might imply that on this occasion he was not an Athenian citizen. Note also the non-Athenian pipe-player and director. The international range of the personnel involved in performance competitions at Athens, remarked on IG II³ 4, 460 n. 2, is particularly notable in the agonothetic monuments of the early Hellenistic period.
