[1] This is a fifth-century dedication commemorating a victory in the dithyrambic competition at the City Dionysia (cf. IG II³ 4, 460 with notes). Usually, fifth-century choregic dedications for the City Dionysia and the Thargelia do not record whether the chorus was victorious in the men's or boys' category. However, this dedication does provide that information (cf. IG I³ 966). The sponsor's sister, Polyippe, made a dedication to Athena before 398/7 (IG II² 1388, ll. 27-8; 1400, ll. 13-4).
