[1] The Conveners of the People (syllogeis tou demou), apparently a board of thirty, three from each of the ten tribes, are first attested in the Silver Coinage law of 375/4 BC, where they are charged with administering punishment to a public slave, RO 25, ll. 14-15. Their core functions are illustrated by IG II³ 4, 76. They are also attested performing religious duties, as hieropoioi for Athena and Zeus Olympios (IG II² 1257, 324/3 BC), and as responsible for the receipts from the sale of skins from public sacrifices at the Olympieia in 334/3-331/0 (IG II² 1496, ll. 82-83, 113-14). In 370/69 and 368/7 BC they dedicated to Athena crowns awarded them by the People (IG II² 1425, ll. 126 and 225). On the significance of this in the context of the development of the wording on dedications commemorating honours awarded to officials see AIO Papers 9, sect. 2. In the top of this dedication is a cutting and base for a statue.
