The prytany of the tribe Hippothontis having honoured (eusebēsantes) the goddess inscribed themselves: Apollonios son of Metrodoros, Eutychides (son of Eutychides),^[1] Dikaios (son of Dikaios) (5) Thalamos (son of Thalamos), Eukarpides son of Probos, Aphrodisios (son of Aphrodisios), (all) from Piraeus.^[2]

[1] In the Roman period, where father and son had the same name, the father’s name was indicated on inscriptions by a symbol like a backwards C. [2] Unlike the regular series of fourth-century prytany inscriptions, this one was not set up in the sanctuary of the relevant tribal hero, which for Hippothontis was probably situated in Eleusis: see U. Kron, Die zehn attischen Phylenheroen (1976), 180-85. Instead it was inscribed on a rock face on the island of Salamis (the identity of the “goddess” referred to is obscure). This inscription also differs from other prytany dedications in that it does not list all the members of the prytany, but is rather a private dedication by only a few of its members from one particular deme (Piraeus, which is located opposite Salamis on the mainland).
