Honours for commanders of tribal regiments (taxiarchoi)

In the archonship of Pytharatos (271/0), in the second
prytany, of AntigonisI, for which Isegoros son of Isokrates
of KephaleVII was secretary; on the ninth
(5) of Metageitnion, the seventh of the prytany.
Principal Assembly. Of the presiding committee Aischines
son of Nikomachos of Anaphlystos was putting to the vote and his fellow presiding committee members.
The Council and People decided. Euboulos
son of Charidemos of Melite proposed: since the commanders of tribal regiments (taxiarchoi) (10) of the archonship of Lysitheides (272/1) have made
with the generals as many of the sacrifices as they should have made,
all from their own resources, for the Council and the People,
and each managed his own tribe
so that they would proceed equipped with arms
(15) as well as possible to the guard-posts and camps
and inspections, and they continued
in all other respects to obey
the generals in charge in accordance with the laws;
so, therefore, that the Council and People are seen
(20) to be honouring those who are of service to them,
for good fortune, the Council shall decide: that the presiding committee (proedrous) allotted to preside in the
People at the coming Assembly shall put the matter
on the agenda and submit the opinion
(25) of the Council to the People, that it seems good to the Council
to praise the commanders of tribal regiments (taxiarchous) of the archonship
of Lysitheides (272/1) and to crown each of them
with a gold crown according to the law for their excellence
and love of honour (philotimias) for the Council and
(30) Athenian People; and they shall have front row
seats (proedrian) at all the competitions the city puts on;
and the prytany secretary shall inscribe
this decree on a stone stele
along with the names of the commanders of the tribal regiments, and stand it
(35) before the headquarters (emprosthen tou stratēgiou); and for inscribing
the board of administrators (tous epi tei dioikēsei) shall allocate 10 drachmas.
