Honours for Prytanis of Karystos

In the archonship of Ergochares (225/4), in the third
prytany, of HippothontisX, for which Zoilos son of Diphilos
of AlopekeXII was secretary.
(5) On the penultimate day (deuterai met' eikadas) of Metageitnion, the twenty-
seventh of the prytany. Assembly in the theatre.
Of the presiding committee Spoudias
son of Memnon of Aphidna was putting to the vote, and his fellow presiding committee members.
The Council and the People decided.
(10) Thoukritos son of Alkimachos of Myrrhinous proposed:
since Prytanis is well disposed (eunous) towards the People, and the
generals have referred many times to
the report which he made also previously,
at the behest of the People, and dedicating himself
(15) unhesitatingly to the collective needs of the city,
went abroad [ . . . ][1] taking no
account of any toil or danger
that might arise, and having no regard to any expense,
and being present [ . . . ][1] and having discoursed
(20) freely (meta parrhēsias) for the sake of the common good,
as one exerting himself to the full for the sake of
his own fatherland, reported to the People about
these things, neglecting no opportunity for zeal,
and omitting nothing that was proper to the
(25) People's need; so, therefore, that the People
may be seen at every opportunity to have been mindful (memnēmenos) of those who
exert themselves to meet its needs, for good fortune,
the Council shall decide, that the presiding committee allotted
for the forthcoming Assembly shall place
(30) these matters on the agenda, and submit the opinion of the
Council to the People, that it seems good to the Council,
to praise Prytanis son of Astyleides of Karystos and crown him with a gold crown according
to the law for the good will and love of honour which
(35) he continues to show towards the Athenian Council and
People, and to announce this crown
at the City Dionysia in the tragedies at the
new competition and at the Panathenaia at the gymnastics;
and the generals and the treasurer of the military
(40) fund shall take care of the making of
the crown and its announcement; and, on
maintaining his preference (diatērounti tēn hairesin), he may obtain other benefits
from the People, whatever he may be deemed to be worthy of;
and to invite him to dinner at the city hall (prutaneion) (45) tomorrow; and the prytany secretary shall inscribe this
decree on a stone stele
and stand it in the agora; and the treasurer
of the military fund shall allocate
the expenditure accruing for the setting up and inscribing
(50) of the stele.
